KFlay Holds an Intimate Evening at the Marquis

KFlay – AKA Kristine Flaherty – returned to Denver and held an uncharacteristically intimate show at the Marquis Theater last Tuesday night. In this small venue – the Marquis holds a max capacity of 325 – KFlay played to a very different-sized crowd than others she’s entertained.
Previous performances I’ve caught from her – opening up for “Grouplove” and “Imagine Dragons” in 2017, at Summit Music Hall in 2018, even her gig at the Mission Ballroom in June of 2023 – have been much, much larger.
KFlay hosted an amazing set, lasting over an hour, playing ore than 20 of her hits.
This time around, she decided to promote her new album “Mono” at smaller venues. It could be a result of her recent hearing loss – she lost all hearing in her right ear in August of 2022. In an interview with local TV station Fox 31 (KDVR), she explained to me that she woke up that morning with no hearing her ear and immediately panicked.
She then found out – after spending $13,000 dollars – that nothing could be done to repair the hearing. This set in heavily, leaving her wondering what her future would hold with only one operational ear as a musician, and in such a loud environment.
If the show last Tuesday is any indication, however, KFlay has nothing to worry about. She hosted an amazing set, lasting over an hour, playing ore than 20 of her hits. Starting out with “Are You Serious,” she added great performances of “Carsick,” “Sunburn,” “FML,” “Dreamers,” “Blood in the Cut,” and so many more. The crowd in the Marquis loved every second, bouncing like the floor was on fire.
